Major government funding aims to support community projects, improve local neighbourhoods and help shape the future of two Enfield communities.
Enfield Wash and Edmonton are set to benefit from one of the largest local investment programmes in recent years, with up to £40 million in government funding announced for the two areas. The funding is designed to support community-led regeneration, improve local neighbourhoods and help residents shape the future of their communities. Alongside long-term investment plans, local organisations have already begun benefiting from grants through the Pride of Enfield Fund, supporting projects that make a real difference at a grassroots level.
The investment package includes an initial £1.5 million Pride in Place Impact Fund awarded to Enfield Council, alongside a longer-term commitment that could see up to £20 million invested in Enfield Wash over the next decade.
As part of the initial funding, £400,000 was allocated to the Pride of Enfield Fund, a grant programme supporting community-led capital projects. The fund has been used to support initiatives such as community hub improvements, outdoor sports facilities and environmental enhancements that aim to strengthen neighbourhoods and create lasting benefits for local residents.
The remaining funding has been used to support wider improvements across the borough, including town centre enhancements, public realm improvements and support for local community organisations.
A key part of the programme is ensuring that local people have a voice in how future investment is spent. An independent Neighbourhood Board is being established to help guide the vision for Enfield Wash and oversee how funding is allocated over the coming years.
The latest development has seen former Labour councillor Rick Jewell appointed as Chair of the new Enfield Wash Neighbourhood Board. The board will work with residents, businesses, community groups and local stakeholders to identify priorities and help shape future investment plans.
Potential projects could include improvements to community facilities, public spaces, youth services, local infrastructure, environmental initiatives and support for grassroots organisations.
While detailed plans are still being developed, the funding presents a significant opportunity to bring investment into local neighbourhoods and support projects that reflect the needs and aspirations of the community.
We'll continue to follow developments and share updates as plans progress and opportunities arise for local residents to get involved in shaping the future of Enfield Wash and Edmonton.
