This year marks the seventh year of the scheme, which was launched in 2019 following a series of attacks on school children after school in Enfield Town. Since then, hundreds of volunteers have given their time to provide a reassuring adult presence, helping young people feel safer on their journey home.
The Community Patrol is made up entirely of local volunteers – parents, grandparents, retirees, local workers and residents who simply want to make a positive difference in their community. Working in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, patrols head out every weekday during term time, providing visible reassurance and helping to prevent anti-social behaviour through presence alone.
As we prepare for another school year, we’re looking for more volunteers to join us.
You don’t need any previous experience – just a little time and a desire to help your community. Whether you can volunteer once a week or once a month, every patrol makes a difference.
As a volunteer you’ll:
The Enfield Town patrol meets Monday to Friday during term time from 3.30pm until 5.00pm, with volunteers gathering under the bandstand in Enfield Market Square before heading out.
Over the past seven years, the scheme has become something Enfield can be incredibly proud of. It has received recognition for its contribution to community safety, including being celebrated at New Scotland Yard, but its greatest achievement continues to be the dedication of the volunteers who quietly give their time each week to help others.
