Conservation Advisory Board Returns to Help Protect Enfield’s Heritage

The independent board has been reinstated to help ensure Enfield’s historic buildings, conservation areas and green spaces remain at the heart of future development decisions.

At the Full Council meeting on Wednesday 1st July, councillors agreed to re-establish Enfield’s Conservation Advisory Board, bringing back an independent group of local experts and community representatives to advise on planning and heritage matters across the borough. The move marks the return of a long-standing advisory body that will help ensure Enfield’s unique character is carefully considered as the borough continues to grow.

The Conservation Advisory Board will bring together people with expertise in architecture, planning, history, conservation and the local community to provide independent advice on developments that could affect Enfield’s historic environment.

Its role is to review planning proposals and offer recommendations on how the borough’s heritage can be protected while supporting appropriate growth. This includes conservation areas, listed buildings, locally significant heritage assets, historic parks and open spaces.

The decision to reinstate the board was approved by councillors during Wednesday night’s Full Council meeting and forms part of the Council’s approach to ensuring heritage has a stronger voice in future planning decisions.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Alessandro Georgiou, said the board will help ensure Enfield’s rich history and historic character are properly considered as new developments come forward.

For many residents, protecting what makes Enfield special has been a recurring theme in conversations about the borough’s future. The return of the Conservation Advisory Board provides another opportunity for local knowledge and specialist expertise to help shape decisions affecting our historic places.

As always, we’ll continue to keep our community updated as more information is released, including details of the board’s membership and how its work will influence planning decisions across Enfield.
