Old Minchendenians Cricket Club itself has been part of our local community for almost a century, having been formed in 1927. The club initially played at Hazelwood Sports Ground before moving to its Bramley Road home, where fixtures have been played since 1954.

But another important chapter in the club’s history began in 1976, when Roger Evans organised the first cricket tour to Bournemouth.

And they have been going back ever since.

What began as a cricket tour has grown into something much bigger – a tradition that has brought generations of people together and created countless friendships and memories along the way.

Over the years, players have become parents, children have grown up around the club, new families have joined and friendships have lasted for decades. For many, Bournemouth has become an annual fixture in the calendar and an important part of being a Minchendenian.

There has, of course, been plenty of cricket along the way – but it’s the stories off the pitch, the friendships, laughter and shared experiences that make traditions like this so special.

The club continues to play both Saturday league and Sunday friendly cricket throughout the summer and proudly describes itself as being steeped in “history and tradition”.

At Love Your Doorstep, we love celebrating the clubs and organisations that have become woven into the fabric of our local community. Fifty years of one annual tour is quite an achievement, particularly when you consider just how many people will have been part of it over the decades.

So, to everyone who celebrated in Bournemouth, past and present players, families, friends and all those who have helped keep this wonderful tradition going – Happy 50th!

Here’s to the memories already made and many more Bournemouth tours to come.

Minchenden Association clubhouse is on Bramley Road, Southgate, London, N14 4HL, close to the Enfield border.
